Hate writing? What the hell are you doing on my blog then? No, stay, really. I love you all. Even you weird word-phobic freaks, you’re all welcome.
I get that not everyone LOVES tapping away at their keyboard for hours (I do, but thank goodness the Universe made us all different).
So if you can’t face writing out another 400 words or so this week, I’ve got a list of alternative ways to get your message across.
If you’re feeling lacklustre about your blogging efforts, first read Blogging: Not Something You Should Bother With, then come back.
These ideas will only help you if you have:
a) A clear vision and passion for your blog
b) Something of value to give your audience.
You come up with the content ideas (or get help generating blog topics here) and I’ll give you some ideas for delivering them.
Five Alternatives To Words For Your Blog Post
1. A Photo
One of the key goals for your blog is to help your audience get to know you better. A behind-the-scenes photo with a short explanation (sorry, it will require some words) can go a long way to building warmth between you. You can share images like this on social media, but remember that statuses and tweets are fleeting. When you post something on your blog you can refer back to it time and again, interlink it with other posts or web pages AND share it on social media.
2. A Tutorial Video
Often a ‘how-to’ tutorial is much easier to understand when it’s delivered via video. You don’t need fancy recording equipment. Your smartphone + some good lighting will do the job if it’s just going to be a few minutes long.
3. An Infographic
If you have some research results to communicate, an infographic is a highly shareable, easy to digest format to use. Don’t have your own infographic? Share someone else’s. The original post often includes some embeddable code which lets you show the infographic on your own site, while linking back to the source, like this Web Writer Anatomy post from Copyblogger.
4. An Interview
Add another voice to your blog, literally. Record an interview with a relevant expert, or conduct a live case study on a past client. Keep it simple by recording a Skype call - no special tech gear required.
5. A YouTube Video
If you find a YouTube video your crew will love, share it with them on your blog. Embed the video into a post with a short intro explaining why you love it, plus a paragraph at the end including links to other relevant posts.
